GETTING INVOLVED

The YACHT Club (Young Adult Catholics Hanging Together)

We are a new group gathering of young adults (20 and 30 something's, married and single) from St. Mary-Holy Cross parish.  We gather in a relaxed atmosphere to expand our own personal faith, provide the opportunity to share our faith with others through community service, and much more!  And of course, we have fun activities to get to know one another.  For more information please contact Jen Linderblood, jlinderblood@storeykenworthy.com, 515-290-9599 or Amy Cogdill, amy.cogdill@hotmail.com,515-227-6144.  The YACHT Club is also on Facebook!  Come check us out by searching YACHT Club!

New Parish Vocations Committee

The Diocese of Des Moines’ Office of Vocations has some great news!!  We have added four new seminarians this spring to bring our total to 14 studying for the priesthood.  In order to continue to build upon this success, Bishop Pates has asked each parish to form a Parish Vocations Committee. The purpose of the committee is not to recruit for vocations; rather, it is to create a parish-wide, continuous and prayer-based environment fostering religious vocations and to support the parish priest in his recruitment efforts.

The Parish Vocations Committee needs at least four parishioners to carry out four tasks:

-- Regular Bulletin Messages.   A brief prayer or comment fostering religious vocations in every Sunday bulletin.   “Cut- & paste” messages will be supplied by the Diocesan Office of Vocations if desired.

-- Petition for VocationsA prayer for an increase in vocations to priestly and consecrated life included in the Prayer of the Faithful petitions at each weekend Mass.

-- Daily Rosary for Vocations.  Parishioner volunteers to say an individual rosary for increased priesthood and religious vocations on an assigned date each month, with sufficient participation to insure that at least one rosary is said every day.

-- Communications with the Diocesan Vocations Office.  The Chair would keep in touch with committee members on how well the above objectives are being attained, report this quarterly by email to the Office of Vocations, and report on other vocations related activities that might be of interest to other parishes.  The Chair would also receive periodic reports from the Office of Vocations and assist with polling adults involved with youth in the parish on possible candidates for Andrew Dinners and special retreats to help the parish priest know who to invite for these events.

These are relatively simple tasks involving only a modest commitment of time.  Please give prayerful consideration to joining and contact Fr. Dan, dkrettek@saintmaryhc.org or 515-367-2685 to volunteer.  Anyone high school age or above can be a member.

Stewardship is based on the spiritual principles of the Old Testament and the teachings of Jesus. It is a way of thanking God for all His gifts, cherishing and tending them in a responsible and accountable manner, sharing them in justice and love with others, and returning them with increase to the Lord. Please consider making a commitment to stewardship of time, talent and treasure a part of your lifestyle.  Here are some opportunities for you to participate in giving, which is greatly appreciated.
